Today, I’m trying my hand at The Luckies. Before today, “Luckies” to me meant Irish good fortune — turns out, it’s a game of skill and charm that takes real showmanship!
With passing showers and bursts of sunshine, I’m learning the rhythm: enticing punters to test their luck, uncovering just one winning number on a card to claim a giant plush toy. It’s fast-paced, loud, and strangely addictive.
The real pros make it look effortless, but I can tell you — sitting in that spruiker’s chair for even two minutes? Stage fright! I stumble, laugh, recover, and leave with a brand-new respect for these show voices who draw crowds like magnets.
We close at 10:20pm with healthy crowds and happy faces. My feet ache, my head is buzzing — and I can’t wait to do it all again.
